De horrorfilm Antebellum is momenteel te zien in de Belgische bioscopen, maar werd afgelopen weekend rechtstreeks op video-on-demand uitgebracht in de Verenigde Staten. Aangezien de film de eerste plaats behaalde op Apple TV en FandangoNow en de derde op Google Play lijkt distributeur Lionsgate de juiste keuze te hebben gemaakt. Lionsgate houdt namelijk 80 procent van de VOD-opbrengst over in plaats van 50 à 55 procent als hij een bioscooprelease had gekregen. De entertainmentsite IndieWire schat dat Antebellum al 500.000 keer werd gehuurd voor 19,99 dollar, waardoor hij de distributeur al 8 miljoen dollar zou hebben opgeleverd. Om hetzelfde resultaat te bekomen met een bioscooprelease, had Antebellum 15 miljoen dollar moeten opbrengen. De totale Amerikaanse box-officeopbrengst van vorig weekend bedroeg echter minder dan 12 miljoen dollar. Verder kregen door het overlijden van de Amerikaanse rechter Ruth Bader Ginsburg zowel de documentaire RBG als de biopic On the Basis of Sex een boost op Apple TV. De films belandden respectievelijk op twee en vier. Ondertussen doet ook Robin Pronts The Silencing het nog steeds goed met een zevende plaats op Google Play en een achtste plaats op Apple TV.
