Christopher Nolan is momenteel bezig met zijn nieuwe langspeler Tenet, een spionagefilm met onder meer John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Aaron Taylor-Johnson en Michael Caine. De film komt volgende zomer in de zalen en in de tussentijd heeft IndieWire dertig van Nolans lievelingsfilms opgelijst. Tot zijn favorieten behoren onder meer films waardoor hij zich liet inspireren voor zijn sci-fi-epos Interstellar zoals Stanley Kubricks 2001: A Space Odyssey, Ridley Scotts Blade Runner en Steven Spielbergs Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Voor Dunkirk putte hij dan weer inspiratie uit Spielbergs Saving Private Ryan, Terrence Malicks The Thin Red Line en Alfred Hitchocks Foreign Correspondent. Wat Tenet betreft, keek hij mogelijk naar de James Bond-film The Spy Who Loved Me.
