Ondanks de iets lauwere ontvangst van hun recentste film, La fille inconnue, behoren de gebroeders Dardenne tot de crème de la crème van de Europese auteurscinema. Ze worden in één adem genoemd met kleppers als Michael Haneke en Oliver Assayas. Het is dan ook niet verwonderlijk dat het Franse La cinétek hen vroeg om hun favoriete films van de vorige op te lijsten. Het resultaat  is uiteenlopend, maar sterk regisseur-gebonden:
